Creative and Empathic

Please Note - As of December 2019 Kate is no longer taking on new Weymouth Clients. She will soon be offering a service in the Purbeck area.

As a Counsellor my role is to be there for you and your needs, whatever best works for you as an individual. I qualified as a therapist after a varied career in the commercial world and later horticulture. I understand that there are times when life itself can feel totally overwhelming and the stress and impact it can have on the everyday.

I work with a focus on anxiety, depression, trauma and related chronic illnesses like ME/CFS. In addition to my practice I am a Volunteer Counsellor working creatively with families at Longmead Community Farm Project and at Hurting 2 Healing, supporting adults who experienced childhood sexual abuse. Additionally. I am a Trustee for Dorset ME Support Group.

I am a BACP Registered Counsellor and have a Diploma in Therapeutic Counselling.

Patient and Understanding

My professional background is in teaching and I have maintained that link by working as part of the counselling team at Weymouth College.

Whatever your reason for seeking therapy, I understand that it can be a big decision, and that you may feel nervous, uncertain or vulnerable. My first priority is to provide a safe place where you feel you can be yourself and speak without fear of being judged. Once you feel comfortable, I will work with you to explore your concerns and help you understand what changes you can make to feel better about yourself and draw upon your own resources, find your own solutions and see things more clearly.

I am a BACP Registered Counsellor and have a Diploma in Therapeutic Counselling.

A psychological perspective

I'm Ian, a graduate member of the British Psychological Society and an Integrative Humanistic Counsellor. I am passionate about our understanding of the mind, and the thoughts and behaviours which can become obstacles to our being happy. Where it benefits clients, I seek to integrate Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) theory, tools and understanding, working collaboratively with you the client to facilitate change.

Whilst first and foremost providing a safe space to work with your agenda, I hope not only to help you find the answers you need today, but also to equip you with the skills and resilience you need to deal with life's challenges in the future.

For many years I worked in the community supporting people with enduring mental health issues, and more recently in healthcare in a custodial environment.

I have a First-Class BSc (Hons) Psychology, a Diploma in Therapeutic Counselling and a Diploma in Cognitive Behavioural Therapeutic Skills and Theory. I am a registered member of the BACP and a member of the BPS.
